BrisDoc was established as a co-operative in 2001 by a group of Bristol GPs and has grown in scale to serve the local region. BrisDoc now provides an out-of-hours service to a population of 1million, covering inner city, urban and rural areas in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. Activities have been expanded to provide 24/7 healthcare, including GP Support Unit and a new GP Support Team working in acute hospital settings; daytime GP and Nurse walk in services; GP Practice; and a 24 hour Professional Line service.
During 2014/15, BrisDoc was instrumental in establishing One Care Consortium Limited to serve practices across the area and was successfully awarded support from the PM Challenge Fund to implement a programme of innovation and change.
BrisDoc has remained a GP led organisation with a focus on serving the local community and has launched a Community Investment Fund to support local voluntary organisations involved with healthcare. Several awards have been achieved for high quality services, including NHS Alliance Acorn Award for clinical governance and for our GPSU service which helps to manage and reduce medical hospital admissions, and CQC has recognised our "outstanding" work with vulnerable groups.
