BARDOC
Bury & Rochdale Doctors on Call (BARDOC) is the GP Out of Hours Service Provider commissioned by NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale and NHS Bury. During the Out of Hours period they are responsible for the urgent health needs of over 410,000 patients. Set up in 1996 as a GP Co-Operative with 109 members of local General Practitioners, the service has seen a 75% increase in call volumes since commencing operations in 1996. This has led to the organisation’s growth to over 90 working GPs, 23 Triage Nurses and over 65 Call Handlers, Drivers and Administration staff who all contribute to the effective running of the service. As a non profit making organisation with no share holders or dividends to pay, we are able to keep costs to a minimum whilst focusing on delivering a safe, robust and high quality patient centred service. In recent years we have delivered a number of innovative pilots including:
• GP In Hours Acute Visiting Service
• GP Extended Hours
• Patient Transport Service
• Overnight Palliative Care Support
In 2008, BARDOC joined with local practices to form a consortium bid for the GP Led Health Centre in Bury being commissioned under the Equitable Access Procurement Programme, in which they were successful. BARDOC was an early adopter site for Connecting for Health’s flagship National Summary Care Records system and was the first of type site nationally to go live with the Adastra Integrated Summary Care Record in December 2008.
